The first book in the series, Carve the Mark came out four years ago. the author is none other than Veronica Roth who also created the legendary Divergent series, I didn't really like the series but I liked it enough to give this one a chance(and also I could feel the cover calling out to me). The first book in the series carve the mark I read two years ago and the sequel The Fates Divide I have yet to finish.

so basically in this book the author has created a new universe and action is seen happening on different planets. Most of the Carve the Mark takes place on the snow-covered planet Thuve. The planet is inhabited by two nations of people, The Thuve-who are peace-loving people and The Shotet-they are wanderers and they settled on Thuve. What's special in this universe is that people can have special abilities and they are called current gifts. they are brought up in people by a special energy, which floats in the universe. the current gift you develop is closely tied to the kind of person you are and can be influenced by things that happen to you.

some of these gifted people are oracles and they know fates of some special families. the Kereseth family is one of such families from thuve .moreover the mother sofa is one of the oracles . its fated that one of her children will be an oracle one day and the other one will die in service o the Noavek family. Noavek are the leaders of the Shotet. Ryzek the oldest is fated to fall to the family benefit.

Main Characters

Cyra Noavek

Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the shotet people. her currentgift causes her to be in constant pain and to inflict pain to anyone she touches so her brother uses her as a weapon against her brother. but Cyra is more than just mere weapon in her brother's hand shes resilient quick on her feet and smarter than he knows.

My favorite quote of hers:

“How do you keep doing this?” he said. “Keep going, when everything is so horrible?”Horrible. Was that what life was? I had never put a word to it. Pain had a way of breaking time down. I thought about the next minute, the next hour. There wasn’t enough space in my mind to put all those pieces together, to find words to summarize the whole of it. But the “keep going” part, I knew the words for.

“Find another reason to go on,” I said. “It doesn’t have to be a good one or a noble one. It just has to be a reason.”

Akos Kesereth

Akos is from thuve but he and his brother are captured by the shotet and he's desperate to get them both alive. Akos's gift is that he cancels out other people's currents and he's technically the only person who can stop Cyra from feeling the pain. Akos and Cyra grow pretty close because Akos can relieve her pain. they both are the main characters in the series.

“You know,' he said, the condition of sourness--or monstrousness, as you might call it--doesn't have to be permanent.'

Ryzek Noavek

He's the evil brother of Cyra, his currentgift allows him to trade memories with other people, which sounds cool but of course, he uses his power in a twisted way to further his agenda to gain control of Thuvhe. Ryzek is very cruel, resorting often to torture and violence. He is often paranoid, utilizing high levels of security for his private quarters. He is also afraid of pain and is indicated to be somewhat weak of spirit.

Genuinely this book was nice and kept me on my toes most of the time and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I'd give it a 4-ish out of 5, the series has only two books so you don't have to commit to anything grand if you wanna give it a try.

Happy Reading!!!
